How do you know when you need an out-of frame overhaul? Out-of-frame overhauls are required when there is a major component failure such as a broken crankshaft or hole in the cylinder block. On some chassis it is required to reseal front or rear timing covers. This repair is more labour intensive but allows us to do a more thorough job rebuilding and resealing the engine.
Once the engine is removed from the chassis, it is installed on our heavy-duty engine rotator stand. Once on the stand, we can turn the engine upside down to access and inspect the crankshaft and bottom end. Having the engine out also allows for the front and rear timing cover to be removed, cleaned and resealed. All components are cleaned in a hot parts washer before reassembly and the engine is primed and painted before reinstalling into the chassis.
